The rapidly growing mixed martial arts group Bellator Fighting Championships recently announced a landmark national broadcast agreement that will see their programming air on three major networks, NBC, Fox SportsNet and Telemundo. Network negotiations for this agreement were coordinated by Carr-Hughes Productions and KC Productions who will together oversee all television production for the series.
Programming will begin airing next April, with 24 Thursday Night "live" shows on Fox SportsNet plus highlight programming airing late Saturday nights on both NBC and, in Spanish language, Telemundo. It represents a major production challenge for the Emmy Award winning Carr-Hughes and KC Productions teams - One event, three different programs, three different networks, two languages, in three days, all in HD.
"We are thrilled to have signed this groundbreaking agreement with FOX SportsNet, NBC and Telemundo, which will bring our unique and exciting brand of tournament-based MMA events to a dramatically expanded audience of both English and Spanish-speaking fans." said Bellator CEO/Founder Bjorn Rebney.
"Bellator and its real sport tournament format has proven it can deliver some of the finest and most intense action on broadcast television" added Jerry Petry, Executive Vice President, NBCUniversal Television.
"We're proud that we've been intimately involved in this process and look forward to bringing the combined MMA and sport production experience and history we share with KC Productions to this exciting new programming" said Bob Hughes, Executive Producer at Carr-Hughes Productions and one of its principals.
The Bellator format is unique to MMA fighting, a legitimate tournament competition where fighters must earn their way into the championship bout. At Bellator (Latin for "warrior"), in each weight class, top fighters from around the world compete to determine who becomes the Champion and No. 1 Challenger. Bellator, where fighters become warriors and warriors become legends.
Stay tuned for more information in the coming months about this exciting production.
